It is a sub-adult right now … and axolotls can take a long time to show their gender (9 to 20 months). They are similar to Chimera axolotls but are not fully divided towards the center. When it happened, it will result in an axolotl having two distinct phenotypes. They formed when two different cells combine in development. Like full mosaics, subtle mosaics’ markings/patterns don’t quite follow the norm. In general, most types of axolotls are considered to be inexpensive. Fully hapoid axolotls rarely survive beyond a few weeks of development, so it is no surprise that haploid/diploid mosaics have health. They’re not as flashy or showy as full mosaics, but they’re special I’m their own ways. Unfortunately, mosaics that have haploid or polyploid tissues sometimes have health issues due to reduced production of signalling proteins, differences in tissue growth rates in different parts of the body, etc. Subtle mosaics are also known as Low Expression mosaics.
